These pictures are the first images I made with my unique darkroom technique and the beginnings of my thinking about mark making, photography, nature and transcendence. The images were all about looking at something very intensely. A kind of meditation on my own personal Cabinet of Wonder. With these first images my intent was to show that by manipulating the film grain via bleaches and multiple development baths, with brushes and toners I can achieve a type of mark that are a kind of photographic drawing. Simone Weil once said that, "attention is a form of prayer" and I think I would have to agree. It is a type of conversation with God yet it is a conversation that has little to do with organized religion. I believe it has more to do with unearthing something so obvious (to us as humans) yet it’s something which we may have long ago forgotten but still remains deeply buried in our psyches. Maybe what this all boils down to, what I am really making when I photograph these objects, are documents of and to the simple idea of wonder. The are about true seeing for me. Much like our modern day physicists, in my own feeble way, I guess I'm just looking around to see if God ever leaves any footprints..
